Fresh and Organic!

I really wanted a spring/summer garden this year but with all of the house projects we just didn't get to it. Thank goodness we live in Texas because we can plant a fall garden! It has turned out really well. We planted some good cold resistant plants. Included in our garden is Sugar Snap Peas, Swiss Chard, Lettuce, Broccoli, Carrots and Radishes. The radishes (right side on the picture) have worked our really well, almost too well. Anyone have Radish recipes? Anyone? *crickets chirping..... SO has the lettuce which is good because we eat a lot of it.

Anyways, it's exciting. We are loving it. Derrick is building a little border for the garden as we speak.

One question though, do you know if Sugar snap peas are a bush or a vine? Do you know if they need a cage? Just curious....
Our little garden patch, there is LOTS of grass....

Our first harvest, some radishes and lettuce.

For those of you that are not on Facebook....

Max started school this week!  I only cried a little after dropping him off in his class on Monday. (Seriously, though, he's my baby!) Today he got to ride the bus for the first time and he LOVED it.  They pick him up and drop him off at our house. I'm not sure if we are going to keep it up though, school is from 8-11. They picked him up at 6:45 and didn't drop him off until 11:45.
Max also got a great teacher, Ms. Matthews. We are excited to start this new phase of our lives! On a side-note, Max is the tallest kid in the class, and he is also happy to have a great friend from church in his class, Abigail!

Sewing and a little photo shoot...

Magnolia really needed some new short sleeve shirts. I was going through her shirts today and noticed that she had lots  of really cute long sleeve shirts that still fit, they just had long sleeves. VOILA! New shirts! I left my comfort zone of pillows and curtains, and went to work, and only an hour later, Maggie has 6 new shirts to wear! Here she is modeling her new tops:

First shirt, the blue one, super easy to do I just cut off the arm cuffs that were at the wrist and moved them up to above the elbow.
I just had to make sure that the gathers would end up near the shoulders. Super easy and quick.
This shirt I was just going to cut the sleeves off and call it good, but I saw all this cute polka dot scraps and added a little flower, and sewed the cuffs of that shirt onto this one. This one was the quickest one to do. Seriously like 5 mins. It looks better on her then I thought.
This is the polka dot onsie that I used this scraps from above. I did layered ruffled sleeves on this one. I think this one might be my favorite. I just cut the sleeve off for the first ruffle, and sewed the underneath ruffle  to the seam that was already inside the shirt for the shoulder. I just then trimmed it down to the length that i wanted the second ruffle to be. If that makes any since at all. This one took a little bit longer maybe 7 mins. I had to be careful with some of the stitching. (Ignore the mess!)

This one was super simple again, just moved the elastic wrists up. The print hides the seam. You can barely tell.
This shirt, i just folded over and stitched down. I also got to use some of the leftover fabric to make little headbands!

This black onsie was the hardest one to do! I moved the cuff from the bottom up, but I needed to make sure the gathers were at the top of the the arm, and there was no print to hide anything, so I just had to be really slow with this one. Total time, maybe 15 mins.

I am so happy how all of them turned out. Gotta love new shirts for FREE. Now go re-purpose something!
P.S. which shirt is your favorite?

The Grape Room

Magnolia's room is finally ready to be shown! I am so excited about this....

Imagine two curtains. I sewed the first one, put it up and loved it so much that I had to put it up here! Give me feedback, I would love to hear your opinion, is it too busy? Too much purple? You love it and want to paint your living room the same color? Let me know!

Movie Night!

Roses are Red....

Roses that I picked today.

We have rosebushes, I don't like them, I think rosebushes themselves are ugly, but I do love roses.  I get to practice my floral arranging skills so that's good. Plus they smell AMAZING! Almost too much.

In other news, Derrick got the time off for Disneyland, so we will be in Cali the second to last week in August. Yay for vacations.... we sure need one.  Anyone want to join us?

Yes we have been working!

Hello everyone, We have been working over here! Our things came in last week and we have been working on getting those things unpacked and things organized etc. This week we bought some blinds for the back 4 windows of the house. There wasn't any, it was starting to get hot, and we didn't like the fact that someone could look into our house. Have you ever priced blinds? Yeah they are more expensive then you think, and we only had to buy 4! Our windows are 35 inches wide, and for some reason we decided to buy the 34 inch blinds because they matched the length perfectly, well when we got them home, and started putting them up they looked stupid so we had to take them back and get the 35's.  Derrick put them up last night and they look WONDERFUL! It's amazing how much they add to the room. I thought that originally I might just put curtains up and that would look okay, but I am so glad that we got the blinds as well. I am going to put a little panel curtain on that back door instead of putting a blind there since we will have to replace that back door eventually.

Yesterday, I bought this little beauty of a couch off of Craigslist. Thanks to my Mom for helping us picking it up and helping me move it inside. It's funky, it's retro, it reminds me of a grandma's house, it smells kinda like a grandma's house, but I love it! I love the shape, and the clean lines, plus it will be SUPER easy to recover, which we will do one day! For now I am just going to throw some new pillows on it and call it done.
So, that means the brown couches moved to the Media room!  Derrick setup the TV, and we are loving our little makeshift media room! There is still a TON that we need to do like paint, run wires, set up sound system, eventually get a projector or a bigger TV, but we love hanging out in here. (I think that it's funny that Derrick is just staring at a blue screen here) First movie we watched in here? Twilight: Eclipse, because we were in a cheesy mood.
This weekend we also got these little beauties! I am in LOVE with the armchair in the back. The upholstery is in really good condition, so again for now I might just throw a pillow on it. The pink swivel/rocking chair is in less than better condition but for now I am going to just clean it up make some cute armcovers, throw a pillow on it and also call it done for now. So many projects! This chair is going to go in Magnolia's room.
Speaking of Magnolia..... isn't she cute when she's sleeping? She loves her blankets!
Got these cute chairs for the kiddies.....
Oh, did I mention that Derrick had a birthday? 28 Years baby! Thanks to Brant and Chris and Mom and Dad for coming! We went to Babe's, and it was hilarious.
I was just going through the phone and found these other two really cute pictures, Enjoy.

Still tons to do on the house as always but we are getting there! I might have some of my family over for mother's day for a dinner, so this is some SUPER motivation to get things done! Work, work, WORK!

Sneak peek into our bedroom...

Our things arrived today from Utah. So we will probably be spending most of the weekend unpacking AGAIN, and organizing, before we can finish painting, but I am glad to have my things here. Oh, and I am excited to see THE AVENGERS this weekend with Mom and Dad S. and Brant and Chris. Holla!

Dilapidation, be gone! (Sort of...)

Anyone who has seen our deck in the backyard knows that it is one of the great eye sores of our house.  The wood is warped and unsecured in many places, and the whole thing is painted this nasty shade of red--a shade of red that, oddly, appears in various parts of our neighborhood.  It must have been a "thing" a few years back?

All the same, with the help of our amazing friend/realtor's power washer, Traci and I went to town on the porch.  Traci spent almost all of yesterday tearing up as much paint and she could while I removed the railing.  We think it looks MUCH better.  What say ye?

Still on the agenda for the deck:
Repair wood where necessary
Cover up bottom
Paint/stain
Build two sets of stairs
Build come sort of shade/covering on half (eventually)
String lights across top (eventually)
Host crazy BBQ's on top of it (eventually)
Host a straight up crazy romantic dance on it (eventually)
